Luverne Simonson

July 22, 1935 — March 21, 2016

LuVerne Simonson, age 80, was born on July 22, 1935 in Camp Lake Township, the son of Karney and Inez (Loen) Simonson. He was baptized in 1935 at Immanuel Lutheran Church and in 1951 he was confirmed by the Rev Nasheim. He attended grade school at District # 54 and graduated from Benson High School in 1954. On February 8, 1958, LuVerne was united in marriage to Beatrice June Pederson at East Zion Lutheran Church by Pastor L. C. Anderson. Together they shared in over 58 years of marriage. They settled on the farm in Camp Lake Township. He farmed for most of his life; however he worked on the space program for Honeywell for 7 and ½ years, living in Crystal, Minnesota. He returned to farming in 1967 and retired at the age of 72.

He was involved with 4-H and later served as a leader. He served on the Camp Lake Township board for 19 years. He enjoyed farming, hunting, trapping, watching western movies, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church and served on many committees through the years. He was called from this life on Monday morning, March 21, 2016 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.

LuVerne is survived by his wife, Beatrice of Benson; his children: Randal (Paula) Simonson of Catlin, Illinois, Julie (Kevin) Rysdahl of St. Michael, and Richard Simonson of Kearney, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Samuel Simonson, Nathan Simonson, Luke Rysdahl, Grace Rysdahl, and Ryan Rysdahl; siblings, LaVonne (James) Nesheim of Minneapolis and Ronald Simonson of Benson; sister-in-law, Wanda Warnke of Minneapolis; brother-in-law, John (Arlene) Pederson of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; and nieces and nephews: Pamela Wilson, Renee (Bob) Erko, David (Pam) Warnke, Penny (Scott) Thalacker, Linda Pederson, and Oliver Pederson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Karney and Inez; and his father and mother-in-law, Oliver and Jennie Pederson. Blessed be his memory.
