Marilyn Carol Hoffman was born December 19, 1939 in Benson, MN, the daughter of Ferdinand and Helen (Schroeder) Schuerman. She was baptized on January 7, 1940 by Rev. Wachholz and was confirmed March 29, 1953 by Rev. Krull, both at St. John’s Lutheran, Holloway, MN. Marilyn was raised in the Holloway area, graduating from Holloway High School in 1957.
On March 25, 1957, Marilyn was united in marriage to Ralph Raymond Hoffman at Watertown, SD. The union was blessed with almost 59 years together and two children, Brenda and Dan. Over the years, Marilyn worked with Ralph on their farm near Holloway working a short time for Fingerhut, and later managing Cafes in Appleton, Holloway, and Danvers, where she was known for her home-style cooking and awesome caramel rolls, as well as baked goods, retiring in 2000.
Marilyn was a devout Christian and enjoyed being with friends in bible study groups, Ladies Aid/LWML, and singing in the choir in service to her Lord. She enjoyed baking and cooking, listening to music and playing piano, dancing, playing cards, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She found great pleasure in raising a large vegetable garden for her family and raising beautiful flowers which many times she entered at the Swift County Fair. Over the years, Marilyn also enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, playing softball, and watching and attending many different sporting and 4-H activities with the kids. She was an active community leader working to bring the Holloway Community Center to fruition, as well as working with the Swift County Fair Board on Entry Day for open class and 4-H entries, and various committees for Fair events. She enjoyed the Fair open class competitions, receiving many awards and ribbons for her baked goods and floral arrangements. She and Ralph enjoyed attending Over 50’s Club and AMVET activities. Marilyn will be remembered for her great sense of humor which was contagious. Marilyn had many fond memories of time spent with her family and friends, and enjoyed helping organize family reunions and school class reunions.
