Fern Martha Ehrenberg

Fern Martha Ehrenberg was born January 18, 1919, in Tara Township, Swift County, Minnesota, to parents, Henry and Frieda (Hoffman) Gades. She was baptized February 20, 1919 at Trinity Lutheran Church – Fairfield Township, by Rev. H.J. Raedeke. Fern was confirmed March 20, 1932, also at Trinity Lutheran Church –Fairfield Township, by Rev. Elmer Schwant. On October 5, 1941 Fern was united in marriage to George Ehrenberg at Zion Lutheran Church –Horton Township, by Rev. T.H. Hilgendorf. This union was blessed with 41 years of marriage and six children: George, Richard, Charles, Keith, Philip, and Carol.

Fern and George made their home in Akron Township, Big Stone County, Minnesota, where they farmed and raised their family. After George passed away in 1983, this remained her home until 2010, when she moved to Appleton Area Health Services. Fern enjoyed her church, especially her time with Lutheran Women Missionary League. She loved to garden flowers and vegetables, read, crochet, and made many craft projects. Fern was a member of the Garden Club, the Extension Club, and the Sewing Club. She enjoyed several bus trips around the U. S.

Fern passed away March 12, 2016 in Appleton Area Health Services- Care Center. She attained 97 years, 1 month, and 25 days of age. Fern is survived by her children: George Ehrenberg (Sally Gordon) of Minneapolis, Richard (Linda) Ehrenberg of Correll, Charles (Mary Beth) Ehrenberg of Fergus Falls, Keith (Linda) Ehrenberg of Crystal, Phillip (Kim Peters) of Farmington, Carol Ehrenberg Bahl of Minneapolis; 11 grandchildren: Anna (Matthew) Kjesbo, Megan Ehrenberg, Cody Ehrenberg, Elizabeth Ehrenberg, Jennifer (Jason) Bucki, Alexander (Ashlee) Bahl, Darin (Kristi) Ehrenberg, Shantel Ehrenberg, Marcy Ehrenberg (fiance, Mike Andreasen, Sara Ulstrom, Krista Ehrenberg (Brad Walters); 6 great-grandchildren: Kylie, Brynn, and Grayden Kjesbo, Benjamin Plant, Kelsey and Nathan Ehrenberg; sister-in-law, Grace (Gades) Strommen of Starbuck; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Ehrenberg on January 8, 1983; parents, Henry and Frieda Gades; brothers: Melvin (Elisabeth) Gades, Elmer (Arloinne) Gades, Henry (Evelyn) Gades, Reuben Gades, DeVern (Minnie) Gades, Norval Gades, and two brothers who died in infancy.
