David Errol Thomas was born March 24, 1946, in Columbia, North Carolina, the son of Malcom “Tex” Thomas and Gladys (Eatheridge) Thomas. Dave was raised in the Norfolk, Virginia area, graduating from Norfolk High School. He enrolled in the United States Army in June, 1963 and was Honorably Discharged in December, 1973.
While living in Norfolk, Dave worked for Fire and Rescue and the Federal Prison Service. In 1997 he moved to Minnesota, to join the staff at the Prairie Correctional Facility. In 1999 Dave switched careers and began driving semi until he was no longer able to do so. On October 20, 2001, Dave was united in marriage to Maxine Elizabeth Disinger, by Rev. Daryl Engelbrecht, at the Appleton V.F.W. This union was blessed with over 14 years together. Dave was a member of the Appleton V.F.W. Post #4955 and American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, playing darts, working in the yard, being outdoors, and especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Dave passed away February 4, 2016, in his home. He attained 69 years, 10 days, and 11 months of age. He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Holloway; mother, Gladys Thomas of Norfolk, VA; children: Wendy (Bob) Jones of Delvan, WI, Jim Jones of Davenport, IA, and Mandy (Andy) Micke of Salem, WI; three grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Dave was preceded in death by his father, Malcom “Tex” Thomas.
