Luzerne Arlys Rensink

Luzerne Arlys Rensink was born in Slayton, MN, to William and Mabel (Solberg) Clauson on March 17, 1927. She grew up on the family farm near the small town of Hadley in southwest MN. She was part of a large family, which included six boys and four girls. Luzerne and her family were members of the Hadley Lutheran Church, where she was baptized, confirmed and later married. She graduated from Slayton High School in 1945 and went on to work at the medical clinic in Slayton for two years. She then continued her education at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, from 1947-1948.

Luzerne and Wilfred Rensink were united in marriage on June 18, 1949, and started a family while working a farm near Slayton. In 1956, they relocated to the Benson area. When the kids were a little older, Luzerne began working at the Meadow Lane Nursing Home and the Swift County – Benson Hospital. She retired in 1992 after 25 years of service. She was a member of Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church for over 50 years and had been an active member of Mission Circle, Quilters and Our Redeemer’s Women during that time. A few of the things that she enjoyed most included crocheting, counted cross stitch, making lefse (a family favorite) and the fellowship of friends and family. Luzerne moved to North Branch, MN, in 2014.

Luzerne passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at her home, surrounded by her family. She is survived by hers sons, Doug (Shelly) Rensink of Lindstrom and Neil (Clare) Rensink of Delano; grandchildren: Kristen (Jeff) Niebler, John (Jennie) Rensink, Andrea Khalid, Jeffrey (Sabrina) Rensink, Ryan Rensink and Kelly Rensink; great-grandchildren: Parker, Landon, Gracie, Hayden, Liam, JD, Braelyn, Miles and Maria; brother, Robert (Eleanor) Clauson of Sun City, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

Luzerne was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred in 1974; daughter, Connie; granddaughter, Heidi; parents, William and Mabel; brothers: Arnold, Everett, Howard, Willard and Allan Clauson; and sisters: Luella Berg, Lucille Lee and LuJean VanWyhe.
