Caroline Hagen

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Caroline E. “Karri” Hagen, 78, was born on November 20, 1937 in Morris, Minnesota, the daughter of Richard E. and Gertrude B. (Schmidgall) Flannigan. She was baptized at the Congregational Church in Hancock and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Donnelly by Rev. Schmidt. She attended schools in Hancock, Donelly, Morris, and Benson.

On February 5, 1955, Karri was united in marriage to Albert L. “Sonny” Hagen in Benson. Together they shared in over 25 years of marriage. They made their home in Benson and in 1966 they moved to Willmar. Karri worked at the Kandiyohi Courthouse as a Deputy Registrar of Deeds, and later worked in medical records at Willmar Clinic and in the clinic pharmacy. Karri moved back to Benson in 1982 and worked at Future Products, as a para for Benson Elementary Schools, and for the past 25 years for the Benson Hockey Association. She taught Sunday School and Release Time at Bethel Church in Willmar and served as a Girl Scout leader in Benson and Willmar. She enjoyed camping with family, fishing, and visiting with family and friends. In her later years, she looked forward to trips to Duck Lake with her daughters, as well as other great trips. She loved reading and always kept a book in her purse. She was a Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan, enjoyed crossword puzzles and computer time with her family and friends. She was called from this life on Friday, January 1, 2016, at her home in Benson. She attained the age of 78 years, one month, and 12 days.

Karri is survived by her daughters, Sherri (Jonathan) Fahl, Susan (Mike) Pennings, and Stacy (Tom) Beyer; ten grandchildren: Erika (Nathan) Hughes, Lacey Fahl (fiancé, Brian Harstad), Kaley (Sam) Poegel, Jon Fahl, Steven (Stephanie) Pennings, Brittany (Dan) Rohlik, Adam (Mollie) Pennings, Holly Pennings (special friend, Hugo), Hannah (Kraig) Hanson, and Jennifer (Erik) Tone; fourteen great-grandchildren: Thomas and Emma Poegel, Hazel and Heika Hall, Summer, Spencer, and Shanelle Pennings, Isaak and Moriah Rohlik, Holton, Kellon, and Luella Hanson, and Briar and Lofton Tone; brothers, Rick (Laurie) Flannigan and Pat (Sue) Flannigan; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents Richard and Gertrude; her husband “Sonny” on April 3, 1980; son, Steven in November of 1973; great-grandsons, Aaron and Preston; and brothers, Tom and Jim.
