George Franklin Higdon was born on May 13, 1920, in McFall, Missouri, the son of George Franklin and Nellie Agnes (Salmon) Higdon. He was baptized in McFall Missouri. He graduated from high school and on June 29, 1941, Frank was united in marriage to Ruby Valentine at the Kandiyohi County Courthouse in Willmar, Minnesota. Together they shared in over 74 years of marriage. He was a career military man and his service to our country required them to live all around the world. Frank entered the United States Army Air Corps in 1941. He participated in World War II, the Berlin Airlift, and the Korean War. Frank retired from the Air Force in 1971 and made Benson, Minnesota their home. He was a life member of the Benson VFW Post #1403, life member of the American Legion, and a member of Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, coin collecting, reading, and was an avid sports fan. Frank died on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at his home in Benson.He is survived by his wife Ruby of Benson; his children: Nellie (Chester) Amis of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Clarence Higdon of Jackson, Melanie (John) McMillion of Two Harbors, Victor Higdon of Clontarf, and Rosalie (Scott) Huston of Benson; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 1great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by parents; a daughter Connie Kennedy; a son Clyde Higdon; and siblings: Evah Delores Sweat, Delphin Delmas Higdon, Mitchell Clayton Higdon, Clyde Benjamin Higdon, Lora Elizabeth Kirk, and Nellie Claire Ater.
