Mildred "Millie" Valborg Skurdahl was born June 26, 1918, in Hagen, Minnesota, to parents Paul Melvin and Ida Caroline (Ostlie) Saterbak. She was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church. Mildred was raised in the Hagen area, where she attended Country School #17. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1937 and then attended Luther College. On March 22, 1947, Mildred was united in marriage to Peter Magnus Skurdahl at Big Bend Lutheran Church, by Rev. C. T. Jenson. Mildred taught school in Louisburg and Hantho. She also taught piano lessons for many years. Mildred was a member of MN Valley Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and was the church organist for over 40 years. She loved music, enjoyed quilting and crocheting, liked to work puzzles, and was an avid Lac qui Parle High School activities fan. Mildred died October 20, 2015, in Appleton Area Health Services -Care Center. She attained 97 years, 3 months, and 24 days of age. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Anderson of Appleton; nieces: Linda (Dale) Thoreson of Allison, IA, Julie Gades and Carla Gades, both of Hancock, MI; nephew, Paul (Jan) Anderson of Cohutta, GA; great-nephews: Jon (Amy) Thoreson of Bettendorf, IA, Mark (Kelly) Thoreson of Bloomington, IN; great-niece, Becca (Charles) Morrow of Dalton, GA; great-great nieces and nephew: Ryan and Emily Thoreson and Lily and Andie Morrow; several cousins; and special friends, the Paul and Jane Baldwin family. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Magnus Skurdahl on November 9, 1976; parents, Paul Melvin and Ida Saterbak; sister, Elisabeth Gades; brothers-in-law: Melvin Gades and Philip Anderson; parents-in-law, Paul and Annie Skurdahl; and two sisters-in-law.
