He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairfield where he was baptized on March 27, 1957, was confirmed May 14, 1972 and married Denise Bakeberg on September 20, 1986. He graduated from Appleton High School in 1975 and from University of Minnesota Crookston in 1978. After earning his Associate degree from Crookston, he returned to farm with his parents, LeRoy and Dorothy Schliep. As his parents retired and his children grew up, David, Denise and son Matthew operated the family farm. David's life was filled with family, farming and a quiet and steadfast faith. Operating and expanding the farm that had been in the family 139 years was an honor for David. He and Denise raised a loving, active family on the Schliep Dairy farm. A life focused on love, family, farming, and occasionally a little mischief. From playing a quick game of tag, sledding, sing-offs while milking the cows, or sharing books to read, David showed his love for his family by his actions. To his children he was a constant teacher on everything from showing cattle, riding horses to helping with math homework. David knew he was a blessed person when he met and married Denise, his lifelong partner in marriage and farming. David and Denise celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary on September 20th, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Denise of Holloway; six children: William Schliep of Holloway, Katherine (Fiancé, Joshua Larson) Schliep of Rapid City, SD, Michael (Anna) Schliep of Minneapolis, Matthew Schliep of Holloway, Elizabeth Schliep of Holloway, and Kristen Schliep of Rapid City, SD; parents, LeRoy and Dorothy Schliep of Appleton; sisters: Bonita (Jon Thorstenson) Carlson of Chaska, Rosemary (Darrell Strain) Schliep of Rochester, LuAnn (Scott) Stroupe of Oak Grove, and Karalyn (Brian) Sartor of Shoreview; mother-in-law, Barb Bakeberg of Howard Lake; sister-in-law, Donna Bakeberg of Rochester; brothers-in-law: Ron (Tami) Bakeberg of Woodbury, Robert (Gale) Bakeberg of Waverly, Ralph (Patty) Bakeberg of Brainerd, and Rande (Kim) Bakeberg of Shawno, WI; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. David was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Anna (Orlowski) Schliep and Walter and Ida (Grabow) Bartz; father-in-law, Vernon Bakeberg; and many Aunts and Uncles.
