Lydia Helena Schroeder was born August 22, 1912 in Odessa, Minnesota, to parents Robert and Helena (Galow) Gaulke. She was baptized on September 22, 1912, at Odessa Lutheran Church by Rev. Max Melinat. On April 1, 1928, Lydia was confirmed by Rev. Martin Waecther at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Shible Township. She attended school at Odessa and Correll, through the Eighth grade. She moved from Odessa with her parents to the Appleton area. On July 5, 1935, she was united in marriage to Martin Schroeder by Rev. Paul Gierke at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shible Township. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Marlys and Marjorie; and twin sons who died shortly after birth. Lydia and Martin farmed in the Appleton area until 1973, when they retired and moved into Appleton. Lydia was a housewife and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidering, and baking. Lydia worked at Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Appleton for eleven years. Lydia died Tuesday, September 15, 2015 in Appleton Area Health Services -Care Center. She attained 103 years and 24 days of age. Lydia is survived by her daughter, Marlys (Garold) Van Winkle of Appleton; grandchildren: Sue (Nate) Vander Velde of Appleton, Sherry (Bob) Steinle of Victoria, Brad (Steph) Huseby of Maple Grove, Tammy (Kenny) Pearson of Fridley, and Teresa (Duane) Kanada of East Bethel; 11 great-grandchildren: Shelly (Steve) Schirm, Brady Vander Velde, Nathan (Heidi) Steinle, Amanda (Dan) Gardner, Alex Huseby, Taylor, Katie, and Abby Pearson, Kyle, Josh, and Blake Kanada; 6 great-great-grandchildren: Isabel, Landon, and Lane Schirm, Julia and Greta Steinle, and Eva Gardner; sister, Renatta Lindstrom of Appleton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helena Gaulke; husband, Martin; daughter, Marjorie Huseby; twin sons who died at birth; four brothers: Arthur, Leo, Walter, and Arnold Gaulke; six sisters: Alma Bartz, Esther Bartz, Bertha Schroeder, Lilly Wrobleski, Clara Shepard, and Evelyn Schlieman.
