Melvin Adolph Munsterman was born August 7, 1929, in Shible Township, the son of Adolph Fredich and Augusta Marie (Stock) Munsterman. He was baptized, at home, on August 7, 1929. On April 18, 1943, Melvin was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shible Township, by Pastor Gierke. He was raised on the home farm in Shible Township and attended Shible Township Parochial school through the Eighth grade. Melvin was united in marriage to Ellen Agnes Thielke on July 30, 1950, by Pastor Meischner, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairfield Township. This union was blessed with 65 years of marriage and 10 children: Vivian, Rollin, Rodney, Roxanne, Gene, Jerry, Wanda, Mike, Wade, and Renae. He and Ellen raised their family and farmed on his home farm, North of Appleton, for 45 years. Farming was Melvin's life's occupation and he loved it. Melvin also owned and operated the Reno Theatre for eight years, starting in 1973. After retirement, he and Ellen moved to Appleton. Upon retiring from farming he worked for the Swift County Highway Department, West-Con, and did some custom farm work. Retirement allowed for Melvin to have time for his other interests, which included refurbishing John Deere tractors and working in his shop. Above all, he was a family man, who especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and he loved and cherished the annual "Munsterman Fish Fry". Melvin died Thursday, August 20, 2015.
