Skold, 87 of Benson, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Glenwood Retirement Village. Gale was born March 20, 1928 in Benson to Ray and Myrtle Skold. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Gale graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1950 with a degree in music education. He played the college chapel organ and also played weekly at local Lutheran or Presbyterian services. He taught vocal and instrumental music in Bird Island, MN. Gale served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. He was a Chaplain's Assistant in the Army and later served in Japan. He returned to his hometown of Benson in 1953 to teach vocal music in the high school and eventually teaching music in the elementary school. He continued his education at St. Cloud University getting a degree in elementary education and a master's degree in administration. He served as an elementary principal until his retirement in 1992. Gale enjoyed working within the community and at church serving on numerous boards, city and church cemetery, the public library board and park board. He also enjoyed traveling in the United States and Europe. Gale was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Myrtle Skold and his brother Doug and sister Jayne. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marlene, daughter Mary (Dane) Henderson of Kent, England and daughter Marti (Bob) Jordan of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Caroline (Mike) Nelson, Elizabeth, Alison and David Henderson, Kirstin and Tre Jordan, 2 great-grandchildren Theodore and Benjamin Nelson, and sister-in-law Margaret Skold.
