Stanton Thor Nelson was born in Camp Lake Township, Swift County, Minnesota, on April 30, 1933, the son of Ole M. and Alice C. (Jackson) Nelson. He was baptized on October 6, 1933 at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church by Rev Beito and confirmed on June 10, 1947 at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church by the Rev. Rhone. He grew up in Swift Falls and attended country school at District #38 and graduated from Benson High School in 1951. On June 11, 1955, Stanton was united in marriage to Lorna Ann Hollen at West Norway Lake Lutheran Church in Sunburg, Minnesota. Together they were able to share in over 60 years of marriage. Stanton worked at the Minneapolis Moline plant in South St. Paul from 1953 to 1955. After marriage they farmed in Rolling Forks Township. Stanton was a member of the Minnesota Red Angus Association, served on the Rolling Forks Town board from 1982 to 1996, served on the board of United Farmer's Elevator, and served 10 years on the AMPI Board. He was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council, and was a member of the Glenwood Shriner's. He enjoyed farming, deer hunting, fishing, and sports. Stanton loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was called from this life on Thursday morning, June 18, 2015, on his farm due to kidney failure. Stanton is survived by his wife, Lorna; sons: Scott (Brenda) Nelson of Benson, Steve Nelson of Starbuck, Greg (Kay) of Starbuck, and Mark (Lindy) Nelson of Benson; 10 grandchildren: Laura (Jim) Ostlie, Darrin (Shawna) Nelson, Keith (Tracy) Borgschatz, Thor (Stephanie) Nelson, Troy (Michelle) Nelson, Trista (Justin) Larson, Nathan (Megan) Nelson, Grant Nelson, Avery Nelson, and Evan Nelson; 14 great-grandchildren: Lilly and Riley Ostlie, Kayla, Zachary, and Alexis Borgschatz, Hannah Gallagher, Soren, Maren, Gillian, and Otto Nelson, Tanner Nelson, and Cadence, Aletta, and Corinna Larson; sisters: Gloria Knutson and Pat (Harry) Janssen all of Benson, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Alice; daughter-in-law Baan Jean Nelson; sister, Donna Bjorngeld and her husband Paul; and brother-in-law, Gerald Knutson.
