Derald Leroy Hanson

November 5, 1929 — June 13, 2015

Derald Leroy Hanson was born on November 5, 1929, in Sanish, North Dakota, the son of Raphie and Myra Alden Hanson. He was baptized in Sanish, North Dakota and later the family moved to Swift County. He was confirmed at Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church. He attended school in the Benson District. Derald was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 earning his GED and serving 17 months in Korea. Upon his return from the military, he attended Dunwoody Trade School in Minneapolis where he received training in Brick Laying. He worked for Bor-Son and Rauenhorst Construction Companies. On December 30, 1958, Derald was united in marriage to Harriet Grann, in Rolla, North Dakota. This union was blessed with over 56 years of marriage and two sons, Brad and David. They made their home in Minneapolis, Kimball, Bloomington, and Burnsville, before purchasing the Art Lee Farm on Lake Hassel in 1971, where they farmed until he retired. Along with farming, he engaged in the brick laying business and in 1972 he started his own construction company. In 1974, along with his brother Caren, they formed Hanson Brothers Masonry Construction. Derald enjoyed hunting, working, word finds, and spending time with his family. Derald was called from this life on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Golden Living-Meadow Lane Care Center in Benson. He is survived by his wife, Harriet; two sons, Brad (Jean) Hanson of Benson and David (Chelsea Stiel) of Benson; six grandchildren: Brent (Chelsey), Maria, Jenna, Jake, Sam, and Jacqui; a great-grandson, Jack; and his brother, Caren (Sandy) Hanson of Benson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raphie and Myra; two brothers, Robert and Myron; a sister, Ardis; and daughter-in-law, Kimberly Hanson.
