Dagny Beyer

Dagny Beyer was born November 18, 1922 in Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Peter and Gina (Retrum) Snelling. Dagny was baptized on December 24, 1922 by Rev. H. O. Mosby, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Torquay, Saskatchewan, Canada. She became a United States citizen on November 14, 1928, at the age of 6, when her family moved to the Milan, Minnesota area. She was confirmed on May 9, 1937, at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, by Rev. R. R. Syrdal. Dagny attended rural school at District #75, in Swift County and Appleton High School. On December 28, 1938, Dagny was united in marriage to Adolph H. Hoppe at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Benson, by Rev. H.E. Jorgenson. This union was blessed with 36 years of marriage and four children: Inez, Mary Lou, David, and Cheryl. Dagny remained home to care for her young family during these years. After Adolph's death, Dagny worked as a cook for Koosmann's Café and Holloway Café, a clerk at Orton Hardware in Appleton, a cook at Randal's Café and Elroy's Café, both in Appleton. In her later years she worked as a cook at the Appleton Elementary School. Dagny married Walter H. Beyer on November 26, 1977, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Moyer Township, by Rev. Magnus Peterson. Dagny enjoyed volunteering to help with various projects and activities in the community. She liked to play cards with her friends, especially "Bridge." Dagny was an excellent cook and baker and was known to have the best doughnuts, lefse and lemon pie in town! She found great joy in cooking and baking for her family and friends. Family was very important to Dagny. She was always willing to take time to listen, to offer support and expert advice. At the time of her death, Dagny was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton, where she was Circle Secretary and a member of the Sunset Committee. In her early years she taught Sunday school and VBS. She was a member of the Bridge Club and the Homemakers Club. Dagny died on June 10, 2015. She attained 92 years, 6 months, and 22 days of age. She is survived by her children: Inez Kashmark of Appleton, David Hoppe of Englewood, CO, Cheryl (Dennis) Beyer of Danvers; son-in-law, David Perry of Appleton; Step-children: Becky (Kevin) Benson of Blue Earth, Nancy (David) Schmidt of Appleton, Glenn Beyer of Appleton; step-son-in-law, Wayne Viseth of Fargo, ND; 8 grandchildren: Lonny (Mary) Perry, Kevin Perry, Scott (Candy) Perry, Lee (Patti) Perry, Michelle (Chris) Wood, Chad (Tracy) Beyer, Brett (Desi) Beyer, Darren (Kari) Beyer; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Rosemary Harris of Lynnwood, WA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Gina Snelling; husband, Adolph Hoppe, on December 10, 1974; husband, Walter Beyer, on May 27, 1985; daughter, Mary Lou Perry; step-daughter, Carla Viseth; step-son, Doug Beyer; step-daughter-in-law, Bette Beyer; brothers: Clifford, Abner, Norman, and Ernest Snelling; sisters: Pearl Landmark, Irene Lindgren, Alice Snelling, Olga Gunderson, Norma Torgerson, Clara Barkley; son-in-law, Richard Kashmark. Blessed be the memory of Dagny Beyer.
