Ruby Louise Halvorson was born June 4, 1936, on the family farm near Holloway, the daughter of Harry and Olga (Suckow) Arnold. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Holloway. Ruby attended District 97 rural school through the eighth grade. She then attended Holloway High School and graduated in 1954. On May 11, 1957, Ruby was united in marriage to Jerald "Jerry" Halvorson at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Holloway. This union was blessed with 58 years of marriage and a son, Kevin. Ruby worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for all of her working years. She was employed for two years with Gibson Lumber in Appleton and St. Paul, five years at Appleton Furniture and Funeral Home, and 32 years with the Appleton / Lac qui Parle Valley School District, retiring in 1995. Ruby enjoyed many years of camping, snowmobiling, and motorcycling with family and friends. Over the years, she and Jerry toured all corners of the United States and Canada. Ruby loved to read, to play cards, summer picnics, and to have coffee and visit. Above all, Ruby wanted most to be around the family and friends that she loved and cared for. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Appleton and held many different offices over the years. She especially enjoyed the years that she taught Sunday school. Ruby was a member of the Minnesota Educational Secretaries Association, the Whist Club, Sewing Club, Book Club, and Friday Dice Club. Ruby died Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Appleton Area Health Services -Hospital. She attained 78 years, 11 months, and 27 days of age. Ruby is survived by her husband, Jerry of Appleton; son, Kevin (Pam) Halvorson of Port Edwards, WI; two grandchildren: Morgan Louise and Thomas Henry Halvorson; three step-grandchildren: Dustin, Devon and Hunter; brothers: Vernon Arnold of Holloway and Willard (Doris) Arnold of Appleton; sisters: Arlene Beyer of Benson, Yvonne Ward of Montevideo, and Shirley Tallman of Brooklyn Park; brother-in-law, Stanley (Mary) Halvorson of Spring Lake Park; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Olga (Suckow) Arnold; infant brother, Milton; brother, Leland Arnold; brothers-in-law: Marvin Beyer, Leonard Ward, Archie Tallman; and sister-in-law, Joan Arnold.
