Vivian Blanche Hallberg was born on May 18, 1928, in Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Anna Himley. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Nicknamed "Tootsie" as a child, Vivian spent her childhood on the farm in Swift County, attended one-room country schools through eighth grade, and moved to Benson for high school. An excellent student, Vivian was valedictorian of her class at Benson High School in 1946. She married Luverne Hallberg on December 27, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson, Minnesota. Their first child, Venee Ann, was born the following year but lived only a few months. Their daughter Darcy was born in 1958, and daughter Jan followed in 1960. After the girls were in school, Vivian returned to work as a real estate closer for the Spring Company, Coldwell Banker, and Minnesota Titlea job she enjoyed and at which she excelled. After she retired in 1993, Vivian enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling to California to visit relatives. Vivian died on May 28, 2015, of congestive heart failure. She attained 87 years and 10 days of age. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Luverne of Minneapolis; brother-in-law DuWayne Hallberg and sister-in-law Ethel Mae Hallberg of New Hope; daughter, Darcy and grandson Tim of Milpitas, California; daughter, Jan of Minneapolis; nieces: Priscilla Philbrick Richardson of Oklahoma City and Robin Philbrick Brady of San Diego; and nephews: Steven Philbrick of San Diego and David Hallberg of Isanti. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and George Himley of Benson; parents-in-law, Bernice and Hjalmer Hallberg of Benson; sister Lorraine and brother-in-law Maynard of San Diego; and daughter, Venee Ann.
