William "Bill" Fliflet was born October 6, 1948 in Appleton, Minnesota, the son of David and Myrtle (Upoff) Fliflet. He was raised in Appleton and his family moved to Savanna, Illinois before his senior year of High School. Bill graduated from Savanna High School and later attended Mankato State University, where he earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. In 1993, Bill was united in marriage to Karen Means. Bill worked as a Corrections Officer with Corrections Corporation of America at the Prairie Correction Facility in Appleton. He found great enjoyment with his military affiliations, which included: VFW Commander Post# 4955 and Post #380, Past 5th District Commander, Past Grand Commander of the Military Order of the Cooties, Minnesota Vietnam Veterans of Service, and D.A.V. He was also active in city government while living in Appleton. Bill served 2 terms as a City Council Member and one term as Mayor. Bill died on Monday, January 19, 2015, at VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. He attained 66 years, 3 months, and 13 days of age. Bill is survived by his wife Karen (Means) Fliflet of Appleton; four children: David (Jennifer) Fliflet of Audubon, IA, Debra Fliflet of Minneapolis, Joseph (Patricia) Fliflet of Waseca and Melissa (Nichlos) Geyer of Appleton; twelve grandchildren: Brittany, Joshua, Faith, Jordan, Daniel, Lucas, Kylie, Kadyn, Ashley, Carsen, Avery, and Baby Karlee; brother, Bob (Roxy) Fliflet of Buffalo Lake; sisters: Betsey Heuer and Barb King, both of Lake Park, IA.; and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Myrtle Fliflet. God bless the memory of William "Bill" Fliflet.
