Michael Hess, age 56, of Benson, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson. Visitation will be held Friday, January 16, 2015 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson and for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Benson City Cemetery. Michael John Hess was born July 29, 1958, in Benson, Minnesota, to Francis "Fritz" and Allouise Ann (Benson) Hess. He was baptized in 1958 and confirmed in 1971 at St. Francis Catholic Church. He graduated from St. Francis Catholic Grade School, Benson High School, and was certified by NRI in gunsmithing. Mike served his country in the United States Army from 1975 - 1982. On August 11, 1979, he was united in marriage to Suzanne Janel Holmgren at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church by Pastor Sven Thompson and Pastor Alan Hagstrom. This union was blessed with two children and five grandchildren. They lived in Benson and Mike worked at SuperValu for 3 years and then as a machinist at Lorenz Manufacturing for 35 years and Ron Carlson Machine for 1 ½ years. He was a member of the American Legion and NRA and enjoyed guns, reading, woodworking, working on cars, watching TV, mowing, fishing, and hunting. Mike passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at home surrounded by his loving family. He had attained 56 years, 5 months, and 16 days of age. He is survived by his wife, Sue Hess; children, Benjamin (Crescent) Hess and Eric Hess; grandchildren: Autumm, Adysen, Brielle, Kaylin, and Jeremiah; siblings: Suzanne (Ed) Fitz, Sharon (Butch) Hagen, Denise Hess, Lori (Bob) Rooney; mother-in-law, Carole Holmgren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Deb (Gene) Wrobleski and Shari (Dave) Vollan; all of Benson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fritz and Allouise Hess; brother, Stephen Hess in infancy; grandparents, Ben & Nettie Benson and Herman & Bertha Hess; father-in-law Loren Holmgren; and many aunts and uncles.
