Florence Irene Nelson was born January 8, 1922, in Fairfield Township to parents Albert Theodore and Irene Augusta (Rohloff) Wente. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church on February 12, 1922 by Rev. Raedeke and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Horton Township, on May 31, 1936 by Rev. Bristow. Florence attended school through the eighth grade. On October 14, 1940 she was married to Emil Hoppe and they were blessed with a son, Wayne. Emil was killed in a lighting strike on August 26, 1948. On April 20, 1954, she was married to Raymond Henry Nelson by Rev. Harkness. Florence worked her entire life as a wife and homemaker. She loved to garden, make quilts, and particularly enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Florence was active in her church belonging to the Dorcas Guild and singing with the church choir. She also loved playing cards, going to Heritage Days in Mora and loved visiting with her extended family and friends. Florence was an avid fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. Florence died on Tuesday afternoon, December 16th, at Appleton Area Health Services. She had attained 92 years, 11 months, and 8 days of age. She is survived by two sons: Wayne (Connie) Hoppe of Appleton and Danny (Joyce) Nelson of Ortonville; seven grandchildren David Hoppe, Doreen (Jason) Keith, Cheryl Nelson, Robin (Craig) Danielson, Tim (Lisa) Redepenning, Terri (Bruce) Lindquist and Jeremy (Jessica) Redepenning ; 14 great-grandchildren: Alexis and Kaleigh Hoppe, Michael and Amanda Keith, Tiffany and Tyler Nelson, Alexis (Nate) Gleason, Brett Danielson, Riley Redepenning, Adam and Jesica Lindquist, and Isabella, Marietta and Lydia Redepenning; sister Marjorie (William) Sauter of Morris; brother Milton (Joan) Went of Benson; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her husbands: Emil Hoppe on August 26, 1948 and Raymond Nelson on November 22, 1998.
