Paul Henry August Grothe was born February 10, 1931 at home at Six Mile Grove Township, the son of Ewald and Rosa (Herman) Grothe. He was baptized as an infant and was confirmed on November 28, 1943 by Rev. H.A. Faedtke, both at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Danvers. Paul was raised on the family farm south of Danvers. He attended Six Mile Grove Country School and then attended Danvers Public School through the eighth grade and attended ninth grade at the Benson High School. As a youth Paul was in 4-H and enjoyed showing sheep at the Swift County Fair. On June 30, 1954 Paul was united in marriage to Shirley Currey. This union was blessed with five daughters: Becky, Faye, Eileen, Tammy, and Nita. Paul and Shirley raised their family on the Grothe farm near Danvers. He enjoyed attending the auctions and working at the Benson Livestock and continued to do so until his health no longer permitted. Paul was the Treasurer for Six Mile Grove Township for 25 years. He also served on the Church Board at Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Danvers. Paul was an usher and custodian at Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson. He loved to make things, especially while woodworking. Collecting toy farm tractors was also important to Paul, primarily Massey Ferguson. Paul died on October 24, 2014. He had attained 83 years, 8 months, and 14 days of age. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Benson; daughters: Becky (Norman) Hoffman of Holloway, Faye (Greg) Gunderson of Benson, Tammy (Jeff) Weber of Watertown, SD, Nita (Niels) Unke of Benson; son-in-law, Stanley Glimsdal Jr. of Murdock; 13 grandchildren: Jennifer Hoffman, Rachel (Ryan) Luft, Adam and Wade Gunderson, Amanda (Adam) Douglas, Aubrey (Eric) Olson, Andrew (Alicia) Glimsdal, John (Kaitlin) Glimsdal, Nathan (Michele) Weber, Krystal Weber, Justin (Maggie) Grothe, Ryan and Kayla Unke; two step-grandchildren: Joan (Dave) Gatemeyer, Robert (Mary) Hoffman; 18 great-grandchildren: Jack, Madelynn, Mamie, Henry, Eleanor, Lily, Heylen, April, Devon, Jayda, Jenna, Rihanna, Jaelynn, Devon, Addison, Makenna, Caleb, Issabella; 3 step-great-grandchildren: Carl, Quinn, Olivia; sisters: Margaret Reich of Benson, Hilda (Orville) Swenson of Appleton, Beatrice Beyer of Benson; "special brother" August Grothe of Benson; cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Ewald and Rosa; daughter, Eileen Glimsdal; Brother, Ewald Jr.; sister, Rosa Koenen; parents-in-law, Dewillis and Rose Currey.
