Genevieve M. Chevalier, 95, was born on September 20, 1919, at the homeplace in Pope County, the daughter of Thomas and Edith Bouta. She was baptized at St. Malachy's Catholic Church on September 28, 1919 by Father Kenny, and was confirmed at St. Malachy's in July of 1932 by Father King. She grew up on a farm in Pope County. She attended Pope County District 89 country school. On May 23, 1946, Genevieve was united in marriage to Richard L. Chevalier at St. Malachy's by Father King. This union was blessed with three children and over 62 years of marriage. They farmed in Hoff Township in Pope County and in 1999 they moved into Benson. Genevieve was a member of St. Malachy's Catholic Church where she served on the Ladies Council and on the St. Malachy's Mission Guild. She did house work and worked at Fingerhut in Benson. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing and embroidery, crafts, reading, playing cards, and dancing. In their retirement, Genevieve and Richard enjoyed going on bus tours. She was called from this life on Thursday, October 09, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Benson. Genevieve is survived by her three daughters: Carol (Jerry) Ver Steeg of Hancock, Coleen Johnson of Cosmos, and Marilyn (Lowell) Marcus of Willmar; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a brother Thomas (Gert) Bouta of Clontarf; two sisters Clara Mae Brandt of Clontarf and Margaret Johnson of Benson, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 2008, parents Thomas and Edith, great-granddaughters Katelyn and Sophia, sons-in-law Dale Emmert and Daniel Thole, brothers Leo, Roy, Russell, Francis, Wayne, and Richard, Vernon and Clarence in infancy, and three sisters Regena Maher, Eleanor Fennell, and Laverne Smith.
