Robert C. Sonsteng, 81, of Benson, died on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Swift County Benson Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 27, at 11:00 a.m. at East Zion Lutheran Church of rural Starbuck. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Robert C. Sonsteng was born on April 3, 1933 in Glasgow, Montana the son of Carl J. and Clarice L. Avok Sonsteng. He was baptized as an infant in the Lutheran Faith. Bob grew up in Montana and in 1945 he moved with his family to a farm in Pope County, Minnesota. He graduated from Benson High School in 1951. Robert served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 to 1960. He was stationed in San Francisco, New Jersey, Amarillo, Texas, Long Island, New York, and Mexico. Bob devoted his life to farming, tending livestock, and dairying with his family. He was a member of Farmers Union, ASC Board, and the East Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery Association where he served as treasurer. Robert was called from this life on Saturday, September 20, at the Swift County Benson Hospital. Bob is survived by his brother Dale Sonsteng, of Benson, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Clarice, an infant sister, and his brother Murien.
