Maurice H. Aslakson, 83, of rural Hancock died Sunday afternoon, July 6, 2014, at the Swift County Benson Hospital. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the West Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hancock, with Rev. Jacqueline Harvestine officiating. Burial will be in the West Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Maurice Aslakson, 83, was born on February 13, 1931, on the family farm in Hoff Township, Pope County, Minnesota, the son of Telford and Clara Nelson Aslakson. He was baptized by Reverend Palmer at West Zion Lutheran Church on March 22, 1931. He was confirmed at West Zion Lutheran Church. He attended country school for 8 years at district #29 in Pope County and graduated from Benson High School in 1949. On April 18, 1953, Maurice was united in marriage to Maureen Engebretson, by the Reverend Forde at St. John's Lutheran Church near Starbuck. This union was blessed with over 61 years of marriage and two sons. They lived in Minneapolis for 13 years where he worked construction. They then moved back to the family farm where he farmed from 1966 to 2013. He worked at TCI in Benson during the winter months. He was a member of West Zion Lutheran Church where he served as an usher and he was on the church council. He loved baseball from little league all the way to the pros. He enjoyed watching the crops grow, gardening, and loved to spend time with his family. Maurice died on July 6, 2014 at the Swift County Benson Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Maureen, of Hancock; his two sons: Jeff (Karen) Aslakson of Hancock and Dale of Hancock; 4 grandchildren: Jennifer (Jon) Maras, Aaron (Jessica) Aslakson, Kate (Scott) Holtz, and Grant Aslakson; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Claire Maras. He was preceded in death by his parents, Telford and Clara; and a brother, Tom Aslakson.
