Sylvia Bernice Taylor was born October 31, 1919, in Big Bend to parents John and Mette (Skogrand) Torgerson. She was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church. She graduated from Milan High School and then attended the University of Minnesota extension college for two years. June 30, 1942, she was married to John B. Taylor at Big Bend Lutheran Church. After their marriage Sylvia worked at the dress shop and later purchased "Sylvia's Her Shoppe" which she owned and operated until her retirement in 1974, She enjoyed reading, gardening, watching birds, being outdoors, and especially enjoyed traveling with her husband, John. She was also a long-time member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Sylvia died on Tuesday afternoon, June 24, at Appleton Area Health Services. She had attained the age of 94 years, 7 months, and 23 days. She is survived by two children: John "Butch" Taylor, Jr. of Platte City, Missouri and Marilee Ann Willis of Shenandoah, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Dawn Storandt, Matthew Webb, John (Laura) Webb, Michael (Cherlyn) Taylor, Cindy Rapp, Melissa Willis and Brian Willis; seven great-grandchildren: Justyn Williams, Aly Rapp, Sarah and Michael Storandt, Jennifer Johnson, Harlie Jones and Tucker Willis; one great-great-grandchild; special nephew, Doug Davis; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John, on November 14, 1998; three sisters: Olive, Gertrude, and Louise; and three brothers: Joe, Art, and Oliver.
