Melba Carol Jagow was born December 28, 1933, in Moyer Township, Swift County, to parents Fred C. and Edna W. (Platow) Vollmer. Melba was baptized January 14, 1934, by Rev. Kiser and confirmed on March 30, 1947, by Pastor Knoll at St. John's Lutheran Church, Moyer Township. She grew up on the family farm north of Holloway and graduated from Holloway High School. She was united in marriage to Willard L. Jagow on August 31, 1952, and of this union three children, Scott David, Lori Bernice, and Joy Carol, were born. Melba worked at several different places throughout the community of Appleton in her life; working as a nurses aid, store clerk, waitress, and a seamstress in Benson. Melba was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a girl scout leader for many years which was something she enjoyed very much. She had many hobbies including camping, reading books, crafting, playing cards with friends and going to the casino occasionally. She had a great love for animals, cats, dogs, and horses alike. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, watching tennis games, softball, baseball and horse shows. Melba died on Thursday, April 17th, at Appleton Area Health Services having attained the age of 80 years, 3 months, and 19 days. She is survived by two children: Scott (Kathy) Jagow of Coon Rapids and Joy (Lynn) Swenson of Correll; four grandchildren: Becky (Nick) Guenther, Robert Jagow, Ember (Dan) Ludvigson, and Cody Swenson; five great-grandchildren: Taylor Jagow, Gabe Guenther, and Aidan, Jaden, and Asher Ludvigson; three sisters: Lavern VanHorn of Montevideo, Bernice (Don) Case of Carlos, and Mavis (Arden) Riekow of Bismarck, ND; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter Lori, and nephew Bruce VanHorn.
