Betty Jeanne O'Connor was born in Montevideo on November 6, 1934, to Ervin and Grace (Schroeder) Suflow. She was baptized and confirmed at Havelock Lutheran Church. Betty grew up in Maynard and graduated from Maynard High School. After graduation she lived in Montevideo and worked at the Montevideo Creamery until attending the Minneapolis Business School. After attending business school she worked for Northern States Power in Montevideo. On November 30, 1957, she was married to John James O'Connor at DeGraff by Monsignor Trainor. After their marriage she moved to Benson and lived on the farm in Swenoda Township until moving into Benson in 1999. Betty loved to sew, read, bake, and listen to music. She also found enjoyment in watching college and professional football and baseball, playing cards, dancing, and bowling. Betty died on Friday morning, March 21, at Golden Living Center-Meadow Lane Healthcare Center. She had attained 79 years, 4 months, and 15 days of age. She is survived by her husband, John James O'Connor, of Benson; three children: Paul (Angela) O'Connor of Burnsville, Pamela (Kevin) Larson of Kerkhoven, and Timothy O'Connor of Benson; two grandchildren: Zachary and Alyssa O'Connor; two sisters: Karen (Vernie) Johnson of Clarkfield and Kathy (Melvin) Leupke of Bemidji; brother-in-law Pat (Joanne) O'Connor of Davenport, Iowa; three sisters-in-law: Mary Ann (Richard) Hawkins of St. Paul, Gloria Suflow of Maynard, and Margaret Shekleton of New Hampton, Iowa; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ervin and Grace Suflow; mother and father-in-law John and Ethel O'Connor; her brother, Robert Suflow; and her brother-in-law, Jack Shekleton.
