Michael Newton Pederson was born April 16, 1922 to Edward A. and Inga (Lien) Pederson in Benson Township. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Mike was a member of Lake Hazel Lutheran Church until it closed and has since been a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson. He graduated from Benson High School in 1940 and attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis. He was united in marriage with Marcene Proehl on April 2, 1955 and together they shared more than 58 years of marriage. This union was blessed with four children and eight grandchildren. Mike farmed in Benson Township until 1984 and continued to live on the farm until he was called from this life on March 13, 2014. He served on the ASCS Committee for nine years and as a supervisor on the Benson Township Board for 42 years. After retirement he worked with his son at Mark's Floral in Benson. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, and following his favorite sports teams. He especially enjoyed sharing his fishing "expertise" with his children and grandchildren during the yearly family summer vacations at Lake Miltona. He had a great appreciation for wildlife, faithfully feeding the birds and preserving habitat on the land he loved.
