Joyce Fern Wilkening

October 19, 1924 — March 5, 2014

Joyce Fern Wilkening was born in Akron Township, Big Stone County, on October 19, 1924, to Erenst and Margie (Kleespie) Bohlman. She was baptized November 30, 1924, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton and was confirmed June 5, 1938, at Grace Lutheran Church in Correll. On June 5, 1943, she was married to Wallace W. Wilkening at Grace Lutheran Church in Correll. After their marriage Joyce lived on the farm north of Correll until 2011 when she moved to Ortonville. Joyce worked in the kitchen at Correll and Appleton schools from 1967 until 1992. Joyce was a long time faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Correll. She had a great love of her family and her church. During her life Joyce enjoyed gardening, walking, garage sales, and particularly dancing. She died on Wednesday evening, March 5, at the Richfield Care Center in Richfield having attained the age of 89 years, 4 months, and 16 days. She is survived by three children: Sharon Valtinson of Bloomington, Sheila Platt of Minneapolis, and Brian (Deb) Wilkening of Correll; two grandchildren: Adam and Vanessa Wilkening; five step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law: Dorothy Bohlman, Carol Bohlman, Helen Wilkening, Doris Wilkening; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wallace on September 13, 1983; two sons-in-law: Verl Valtinson and David Platt; two brothers: Larry and Alvin Bohlman; and sister and brother-in-law, Valda and Clarence Erdman.
