Leona B. Freilinger was born on August 02, 1914, the daughter of Fred and Amanda Mattwa Nash, in Grace Township, Chippewa County, Minnesota. She was baptized at Havelock Church. She moved with her family to Wadena County, then back to Havelock Township in Chippewa County, and then in 1946 she moved to Maynard, where she worked as a clerk in the grocery store and as a telephone operator. On June 5, 1946, Leona was united in marriage to Louis Mathew Freilinger. They settled on the Freilinger farm in Grace Township. In March of 1951, they moved to a farm in Dublin Township, Swift County, where she lived until February 2006. This union was blessed with over 54 years of marriage and two children. Leona worked as a housewife and also at Fingerhut in Benson. She was a member of Swift County Homemakers and the St. Bridget's Altar and Rosary Society. Leona liked to garden, can and freeze produce, sew, embroider, traveling, music and dancing. She loved to visit with friends and family. She was called from this life on Friday, December 06, at the Golden Living Center in Benson. She attainted the age of 99 years, 4 months, and 4 days. She is survived by her son Jim (Betty) Freilinger, Paynesville; her daughter Judy (Lee) Daugherty, Kooskia, Idaho; a granddaughter Kristen (Brad) Mehlhop; a great granddaughter Katelynn Mehlhop; and other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Louis in 2001; and her parents Fred and Amanda Nash.
