Mildred Edith Zinda was born on the farm southeast of Holloway in Edison Township, Swift County, on February 21, 1917, to parents Fred and Clara (Forschler) Hallaway. She was baptized in May of 1938 at Appleton. She went to country school at District 69 until the age of ten when her mother died and she went to live with her aunt at Brownsville for two years. She returned to Holloway and stayed with her sister, Hazel Holzheimer, and went to high school. Mildred graduated from Holloway High School in 1933 and then attended Normal Training at Appleton. She taught school for three years before and marriage and then taught one year after her marriage. On June 6, 1938, she was married to Ignace Frank Zinda at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Edison Township. They farmed in Edison Township for 56 years; retiring in 1974. After retiring they spent many winters in Weslaco, Texas. After Ignace's death on March 8, 1994, Mildred moved into Westview Apartments in Appleton. In September of 2011 Mildred became a resident of the Minnewaska Lutheran Home where she died on Tuesday, November 12th. She had attained the age of 96 years, 8 months, and 21 days. She is survived by four children: Nancy Gronholz of Starbuck, Daniel (LaVonne) Zinda of Alexandria, Bonnie (Arlan) McClain of Dixon, IL, and Judy (Pat) O'Byrne of Littleton, CO; nine grandchildren: Michael (Meg) Zinda, Bryan Zinda, Andrea (Darren) Griese, Roxanna (Kevin) Gapstur, Randi Norby, Rob (Marlise) Gronholz, Jill (Chris) Maida, Nathan (Calli) McClain, and Hayley O'Byrne; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Ramseth, of Forest Lake; sister-in-law, Marie Zinda, of Appleton; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Mildred is prededed in death by her parents; her husband, Ignace; two sisters: Hazel Holzheimer and Beth Dezotell; and three brothers: John Hallaway, Sr., William Hallaway, and Herbert Hallaway; nine sisters-in-law, and ten brothers-in-law.
