Clontarf - Agnes Cecelia (Ascheman) Schirmer, age 83, of Clontarf, died on Sunday, October 6, 2013, at the Swift County Benson Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Clontarf. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson, from4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Agnes Cecelia Ascheman was born October 26, 1929, to Clarence and Eva (Fennell) Ascheman of rural Clontarf, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Clontarf. She grew up on the farm and worked in the fields with her dad as well as in the home. She finished the 8th grade in district #59 country school. She married "Chet" Schirmer on April 20, 1950, at St. Malachy Church attended by Bernice (Sherman) and Floyd Ascheman and "Sally" Schirmer and, her future husband, Francis O'Malley. Naomi Ascheman was her flower girl. Aggie worked candling eggs at Baumgarten Produce in Clontarf and Benson Produce. She worked at Fingerhut in Benson in the luggage department. She cleaned homes and businesses in Clontarf, Benson, and Danvers. Aggie butchered deer and cleaned chickens, ducks, pheasants, and geese for hunters. She worked for Walt Grothe at Grothe's Gardens in Clontarf, Billy Boutain at the Chatterbox Café / Haymaker Inn, and did in-home care for many families. Aggie embroidered dishtowels (without a hoop!) and baked pies for others. She watched her grandchildren grow up next to her. She played cards, and enjoyed her friends everywhere she went, and especially those she made at Sandy's Café after she moved into the apartment in Benson. She lived at Golden Living Center - Meadow Lane for 3 years in Benson and enjoyed gardening and feeding the birds outside her window. Aggie passed on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at the Swift County Benson Hospital. She attained the age of 83 years, 11 months, and 10 days. She is survived by her children Beverly Thorson of Benson and James (Anne) Schirmer of Clontarf; five grandchildren Shelly Agnes, Jim (LaRae) Thorson, Varian Schirmer, Bob Slaughter, and Mason (Lisa) Schirmer, nine great grandchildren, Nathan Thorson, Nicole Thorson, Cody, Kyle, Devin, Dalton, and Dylan Agnes, and Payton and Collin Slaughter; sisters -in-law Evie Ascheman, Ann Ascheman, and brother-in-law Bob Erdmann; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Chester in 1970, her parents Clarence and Eva, brothers Frank, Floyd (Bernice), Lyle (Beatrice), and Leroy (JoAnn), sisters: Rita (Le Roy) Aaberg, Naomi, a sister in infancy Lavonne; and a niece, Luann.
