Benson, Minnesota - Leona H. Ohmacht, age 77, of Benson, died Friday, September 27, 2013, at home. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson, with Rev. Paul Idstrom officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 30, 2013, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Benson. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. Leona Helen Ohmacht was born on February 9, 1936 in Hayes Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Melvin M. and Mabel B. (Skoglund) Hanson. She was baptized on August 15, 1936 by Rev. Arthur L. Chell at the Trinity parsonage in Benson and confirmed on May 21, 1950 by Rev. Bernt G. Holmes at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Murdock. Leona grew up in Hayes Township, rural Kerkhoven, Minnesota. She attended District 29, Kerkhoven High School, and St. Cloud State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Education. After college graduation, she taught at the Mounds View School in New Brighton. She also taught school in Benson. On March 29, 1958, Leona was united in marriage with Walter "Wally" Ohmacht by Rev. Bernt G. Holmes at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Murdock. This union was blessed with more than 47 years of marriage, four children, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. After marriage, they lived on their farm in rural Danvers until moving to Benson in March of 1987. Leona was involved in a craft co-op store, "The Brown Bag" in Benson. She was also involved in WELCA, Circle, and quilting at Trinity Lutheran and a member of the Danvers Homemaker Group. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, playing cards, and she loved spending time at the cabin with family. Leona was called from this life on Friday, September 27, 2013, at home. She attained 77 years, 7 months, and 18 days of age. Leona is survived by her children: Jody Ohmacht of Ames, IA, Judy (Bruce) Donaldson of Glendale, AZ, Jon (Janet) Ohmacht of Glenwood, MN, and Sally (Jamie) Noyes of Monticello, MN; grandchildren: Tony (Missi) Ohmacht, Monica (Jason) Olson, Daniel (Heather) Ohmacht, Thomas Ohmacht, Jonathan Noyes, and Josie Noyes; great-grandchildren: Bria Ohmacht, Ayden Ohmacht, Gavin Olson, Carson Olson, and Macoy Olson; sister-in-law, Connie Hanson of Kerkhoven, MN; and brother-in-law, Terry Hughes of Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wally, on May 30, 2005; her parents, Melvin and Mabel Hanson; sister, Phyllis Hanson; brother, Wayne Hanson; and sister-in-law, Barbara Ohmacht Hughes.
