LeRoy E. Lietz was born on October 2, 1926 in Montevideo, Minnesota to Fred E. and Alma (Garbe) Lietz. He grew up in Grace Township and attended District #90 country school. LeRoy served his country in the United States Navy from 1944 - 1946 during WWII. He then worked for the railroad for one year. On May 11, 1947, he was united in marriage to Vione G. Evanskass. This union was blessed with more than 62 years of marriage, three children, five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. LeRoy worked for Wogan Electric in Montevideo and farmed from 1949 until retirement. He served as a District #90 School Board Chairman; as an usher, on many boards, and as a chairman at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Benson; and was a member of the National Farmers Organization. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and friends. LeRoy was called from this life on August 12, 2013, at the Golden Living Center - Meadow Lane in Benson. He attained the age of 86 years, 10 months, and 10 days. LeRoy is survived by his children: Katherine (John) Twitchell of Rio Rancho, NM, Barbara Himley of Benson, MN, and Vicki Hagerty of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren: Angela Arneson, John Twitchell, Matthew Twitchell, and Justin (Melissa) Hagerty; seven great grandchildren; and his sister, Ruth Johnson of DeGraff, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vione, on November 1, 2009; grandson, Ryan Twitchell; one brother; and one sister.
