Meranda Louise Wilkening was born on December 11, 1914, in Shible Township, Swift County, to parents William and Rickie (Erdman) Wilkening. She was baptized on January 10, 1915, and was confirmed on April 1, 1928, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shible Township, by Rev. Waechter. Meranda went to country school at District #56 through the eighth grade and at Appleton High School for three months a year for two years. On October 19, 1939, Meranda was married to Harry C. Christenson at Immanuel Lutheran Church by Rev. Paul Gierke. They farmed most of their married lives and Meranda worked at the Appleton Hospital as a cook for ten years until retiring. She and Harry did a lot of fishing and enjoyed traveling with their friends. Harry and Meranda particularly enjoyed the time with family and grandchildren. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Eagles Club at Morris. Meranda died on Sunday afternoon, June 23rd, at the Appleton Care Center. She had attained 98 years, 6 months, and 9 days of age. She is survived by her son, Ross (Shirley) Christenson, of Montevideo; three grandchildren: Larry (Kwan) Christenson of Milledgeville, GA, Linda Christenson of Richfield, and Steve Christenson of St. Paul; two great-grandchildren: Natasha Christenson and Rahein Hampton; five sisters-in-law: Joyce Wilkening of Correll, Doris Molden of Benson, Helen Wilkening of Appleton, Doris Wilkening of Appleton, and Vivian Heinecke of Appleton; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Preceding Meranda in death are her parents; her husband, Harry, on October 28, 1982; grandson, Brandon Christenson; four brothers: Wallace Wilkening, Ray Wilkening, Earl Wilkening, and Helmuth "Buddy" Wilkening and his wife Carol; two sisters: Lorna Schlueter and Verna Kleespie; brother-in-law, Warren Molden; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Willard and Gladys Christenson.
