Alice Sylveria Tatge was born on October 1, 1921, on a farm near Swift Falls, Minnesota to Elling and Dena (Hanson) Swingseth. Her family later moved to a farm north of DeGraff. Alice had 3 sisters and 3 brothers. She grew up in Swift Falls and attended rural school through the 10th grade. On May 29, 1942, Alice married Edwin Tatge. Together, they were able to share in more than 64 years of marriage. This union was blessed with 5 sons and 2 daughters: James, Carol, Robert, Donald, Rosemary, Wayne, and Kevin. Alice and Edwin owned a farm by Lake Hazel and they moved to Benson in 1966. Alice was a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church in Benson, the Ladies Aid Society, and a Homemakers Club. She enjoyed the company of the parish ladies and helping others. Alice also enjoyed gardening, baseball, embroidery, crocheting, playing cards, and watching the news. Alice loved spending time with her family. She was called from this life on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Golden Living Center - Meadow Lane in Benson having attained the age of 91 years, 7 months, and 6 days. Alice is survived by her children: James Tatge, Carol (Arvid) Skundberg of Benson, Robert Tatge of Spicer, Donald (Connie) Tatge of Black River Falls, Wisconsin, Wayne (Julie) Tatge of Young America, and Kevin (Deborah) Tatge of Chaska; 7 grandchildren: Evan Skundberg, Barry Gades, Lindsay Berger, Jason (Jennifer) Gades, Amanda (Christopher) Wurtz, Joshua Tatge, and Kelsey Tatge; 7 great-grandchildren: Kaley Gades, Austin Gades, Courtney Gades, Alexis Berger, Kierra Berger, Ava Gades, and Adam Gades; 1 brother, Ervin Swingseth of Benson; and 1 sister, Gladys Benson of Montevideo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elling and Dena; husband, Edwin in 2006; daughter, Rosemary; granddaughter, Kelly; brothers, Lawrence and Elder; and sisters, Ethel and Bernice.
