Violet Marie Sturm was born June 14, 1920, at Slayton, MN, to parents Hans M. and Ella S. (Moen) Hope. She became a child of God through Holy Baptism on October 6, 1920, at Bethania Lutheran Church in Moody County, South Dakota. She affirmed her baptismal vows at her confirmation on June 16, 1936 at Peever Lutheran Church in Roberts County, South Dakota. Violet attended country school for eight years and the attended Peever High School. On November 2, 1938, Violet was married to Harold W. L. Sturm at Webster, South Dakota. Their marriage was blessed with three children; two sons and a daughter. The times were very tough their first years of marriage due to the Depression and drought. Violet and Harold moved several times to where they could find work. The family moved to Watertown, South Dakota in 1941 where Harold was employed at Swift & Company packing plant. They lived in Watertown for 26 years and joined Grace Lutheran Church. The children all attended school there. In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Violet also was a nurse assistant at Bartous Hospital. When the hospital closed she began working at St. Ann's Hospital and worked there until Swift & Company closed in 1967. After this they were transferred to Guymon, Oklahoma where Harold worked for the new Swift Packing Plant and Violet worked at the Guymon Hospital. They retired in 1973 and moved to Appleton in 1977 to be closer to family and enjoy the children and grandchildren. Since moving to Appleton they have been members of Zion Lutheran Church where Violet belong to the Glory Circle and the Ladies Aid. Violet enjoyed Rosemaling, Hardanger, cross-stitching, folk art painting, Scandinavian cooking and baking, sewing, and making quilts. Violet died at her home on Wednesday, February 20. She had attained 92 years, 8 months, and 6 days of age. She is survived by two children: Eugene (Pauline) Sturm of Watertown, SD, and Carol Bohlman of Ortonville; nine grandchildren: Jim (Paula) Sturm, Tiffany (Donnie) Stanton, Jacqueline (Jim) Thompson, Juliane Boraas, Janel Smith, Craig (Lisa) Bohlman, Cindi (Brian) Boehnke, Crystal Moran, and Carmen Rochel; 15 great-grandchildren: Shanna, Mason, Michael, Ben, Christopher, Victoria, Nathan, Alexander, Lilly Mae, Colton, Quinton, Jacob, Jessica, TaNiel and Tristen ; one great-great-grandson, Gavin; a sister, Mae Dalberg, of Showlow, AZ; sister-in-law, Lovenia Sturm, of Oklahoma; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold, on August 26, 1993; son, Dale; great-grandson, Justin Sturm; sister, Darlene Skogan; and two brothers, Norman and Leonard Hope.
