Walter Henry Munsterman was born on May 14, 1913 to Adolph R. and Augusta (Stock) Munstermann. He was baptized on June 14, 1913 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Shible and confirmed on April 17, 1927. Walter grew up in Swift County and graduated from the rural schools of District #42 and Immanuel Christian School on July 12, 1928. He then entered Appleton High School and graduated on June 27, 1932. On September 24, 1936, Walter was united in marriage to Mabel Martha Schliep at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield Township. Together Mabel and Walter shared more than 69 years of marriage. This union was blessed with 8 children, 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Over the years, Walter was a farmer, an Agent for Farmer's Union Insurance, as well as other companies, and Manager of the CO-OP Credit Union from 1967-1979. His hobbies and enjoyments included: dancing, playing cards, Dominos, going to coffee with friends, winters in Texas, playing and umping baseball in the "Pomme de Terre" League, teaching Sunday School, and singing in the choir. He also served as a Lion's Club Member and Officer, and a 4-H Club Leader. As a dedicated husband and father, Walter remained unwavering in his faith and love of family. Walter is survived by four sons: Walter Jr. (Adele) Munsterman of Brooklyn Park, MN, Donald (Joann) Munsterman of Morris, MN, Richard (Karen) Munsterman of Duluth, MN, and Robert (Debra) Munsterman of Lake Norden, SD; four daughters: Joan (Vernon) Arnold of Holloway, MN, Diane (David) Schuerman of Benson, MN, Carol (Duane) Dahl of North Pole, AK, and Beverly (Gregory)Higdon of Fairbanks, AK; 24 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Albert (Vivilore) Munstermann, Evelyn Giese, Verna Quandt, Renetta Schlieman, Melvin (Ellen) Munsterman, Ronald Munsterman, and Adolph Munstermann, Jr.; sisters-in-law: Elfrieda Hamann and Emily Munstermann; and brother-in-law, Leroy (Dorothy) Schliep. Walter is preceded in death by his wife, Mabel; parents, Adolph and Augusta Munstermann; and siblings, Bertha Harste and Elmer Munsterman.
