Geneva Marie (DeLano) Evenson was born on April 9, 1928, in Huron, South Dakota, the daughter of Richard John and Mattie May (DeGrout) DeLano. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Sunburg, Minnesota. She grew up and attended school in South Dakota until the age of 11 when she moved to Sunburg. On September 14, 1946, Geneva was united in marriage to Virgil LeMore Evenson at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Benson by Rev. Nasheime. This union was blessed with four children, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and more than 52 years of marriage. Geneva and Virgil farmed in rural Benson until retirement when they moved to a home on Lake Amelia near Glenwood. She was a member of Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church, an avid gardener, and enjoyed baking homemade bread, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Geneva was called from this life on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at the Swift County Benson Hospital in Benson, MN. She attained the age of 84 years, 9 months and 15 days. Geneva is survived by her children: Beverly Deiderich of Gilroy, CA, Barbara Farmer of Prescott, AZ, Kevin (Debbie) Evenson, Hutchinson, MN, Daniel (Caroline) Evenson of Dickson, TN; six grandchildren: Paula Diederich, Karla Diederich, Chad Kirschbaum, Paul Kirschbaum, Justin (Jodi) Evenson and Ben (Jaimie) Evenson; nine great-grandchildren: Savannah Miller, Jacoby Diederich, Andon Kirschbaum, Avery Kirschbaum, Jasmine Evenson, Branden Evenson, Michael Evenson, Austin Evenson and Kourtney Evenson; sisters-in-law: Karen Evenson, Iva Lou Evenson and Mary Ann Evenson; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Virgil Evenson on October 27, 1998; her parents: Richard and Mattie DeLano; brother, Harley DeLano; sisters: Frances (Walter) Larsen and Helen (John) Muilenburg, Dorlene (Emil) Ochsner and Florence (Alf) Swenson; nephews: Steven Swenson and Ron Swenson, Carl Foote; niece: Margaret Hardy, and great-nephew: Rick Horton.
