Floyd William Vergin was born on January 9, 1939, the son of Walter and Esther (Kolstad) Vergin of Benson. He grew up on the family farm and attended District #71 country school and graduated from Benson High School in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country from 1957-1961. He returned to the Benson area to farm. On March 20, 1965, Floyd was united in marriage to Phyllis Young. To this union three sons were born. Floyd continued to farm until the mid-90's, then he worked full time for Tyler/Case IH until his retirement in 2010. Floyd enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, helping out on the farm, and visiting with family and friends. He enjoyed visiting the area casinos. Floyd fought a courageous battle against leukemia, undergoing a successful bone marrow transplant in October of 2011. He was called from this life with his family by his side on Saturday, December 22, 2012, at the Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis, following complications from pneumonia. He attained the age of 73 years, 11 months, and 13 days. Floyd is survived by his two sons, Wayne (Serena) Vergin and Darin (Shelly) Vergin, both of rural Benson; six grandchildren, Megan, Wyatt, Cole, Olivia, Devin, and Cassidy, all of Benson; his mother, Esther Vergin of Benson; six brothers, Roger (Shirley) Vergin of Plato, Dennis Vergin of Minneapolis, Don (Nancy) Vergin of Benson, David Vergin of DeGraff, Gary (Sharon) Vergin of Willmar, and Chuck Vergin of DeGraff; five sisters, Joan (Jerry) Johnson of Boulder City, Nevada, Linda Carstens, Mona (Walter) Young, and Jane Lee, all of Benson, and Gail (Rod) Skowronek of Forest Lake; and many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Floyd was preceded in death by his son, James, in infancy and his father, Walter.
