Leo Anton Lauinger was born on August 21, 1925, in Esmond, North Dakota, the son of Ben and Margaret (Leiphon) Lauinger. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond, North Dakota. He grew up and attended school in Esmond. On November 12, 1945, Leo was united in marriage to Florence E. Voeller by Father F.X. Miller at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Together they were able to share in 67 years of marriage. This union was blessed with four children, ten grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Leo was a farmer his entire life, moving to Pope County, Hoff Township, Minnesota in 1954. He served on the Hoff Township Board for over 40 years. Among the things he enjoyed were playing cards, hunting and fishing. Leo was called from this life on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at the West Wind Village in Morris, MN. He attained the age of 87 years, 2 months and 23 days. He is survived by his wife, Florence of Hancock; his children, Dwight (Margaret) Lauinger of Hutchinson, MN, Florence (Darold) Swank of Pierre, SD, and Christopher (Jill) Lauinger of Hancock, MN; daughter-in-law, Lorna Lauinger of Hayfield, MN; grandchildren, Marc and Scott Lauinger, Donna and Tim Swank, Curtis, James, Janet, Cathy, and Tom Lauinger; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Emilia, and Natalie Lauinger, Andrew Smith, Connor and Avery Swank, Emanuel, Hope, and Dirk Dosch, Isabella and Jacob Lauinger; brother, Edward (Mary) Lauinger of Devils Lake, ND; sister, Lorraine Brewer of White Lake, MI; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Leo was preceded in death by his son, Robert Lauinger; an infant grandchild; grandson, Brian Swank; his parents, Margaret and Ben Lauinger; brothers, John and Benno; and sisters, Mary, Catherine, and Ann .
