Timothy John McGinty was born May 19, 1948, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Michael Lloyd and Mary Bernice (Reynolds) McGinty. He was baptized on May 20, 1948 and confirmed into the Christian faith in June of 1961 at St. Bridgets Catholic Church in De Graff. He grew up in the De Graff and Benson areas, attending grade school in De Graff and graduating from Benson High School. Tim proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1966 - 1969 during the Vietnam War. On November 27, 1971, Tim was united in marriage to Mary Margaret Swanberg at St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson by Father Gorman. They were blessed with 38 years of marriage. Tim lived in De Graff until 1989, then moved to Benson. He worked at Lorenz Manufacturing, Crop Mate Fertilizer in De Graff and 23 years at Chamberlain Oil Company in Clontarf. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Benson, a life member of the VFW and the American Legion, and the De Graff and Benson Fire Departments. Among the things he enjoyed were fishing, hunting, and serving on the local fire departments. He was very proud to have been a member of the United States Marine Corps; he loved being a husband, dad and best of all, Grandpa. Tim was called from this life on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at St. Cloud Hospital. He attained the age of 61 years, 10 months, and 14 days. Tim is survived by his wife, Mary of Benson; his children: Melissa (Nathan) McGinty-Thompson of Benson, and Peter (and special friend Karen) McGinty of Madison; three grandchildren: Leah, Samuel, and Mollie; brother, Ric McGinty of Benson; sister-in-law, Mary Jean McGinty of Glenwood; and other relatives and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Lloyd and Bernice; three brothers: Terry, Chuck and Kevin McGinty.
