Lois Gertrude Schlieman was born on November 28, 1924 in Stevens County, Minnesota, to Albert and Frieda (Pasche) Piepenburg. She was baptized at home, on December 4, 1924, by the Rev. C. Ristow and was confirmed June 28, 1938 at Zion Lutheran Church, Horton Township. Lois attended District 41 through the eighth grade. She attended Morris High School for two years and graduated from Alberta High School in 1942. After graduation Lois completed a commercial course in Appleton in 1943. Lois worked at the Employment Office in Barberton, Ohio for three months and then worked at Honeywell in Minneapolis for three years.She met her husband, Edgar, while roller-skating in Minneapolis when he was home on furlough. Lois and Edgar were united in marriage on April 17, 1947. They lived in Moyer Township and farmed there until 1980. The couple then moved to Appleton, where Edgar lived in the Nursing Home for six years. Edgar died on January 18, 1989 and was laid to rest in the Appleton City Cemetery. Lois taught Sunday school for many years at Trinity -Fairfield and at Trinity -Appleton. She was Financial Secretary at Trinity -Appleton for four years and also belonged to Trinity Guild for many years. Lois enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and loved being a homemaker. She also enjoyed crocheting; quilt making and doing jig saw puzzles. Lois also enjoyed traveling and was able to visit interesting places which included: Europe, Norway, Sweden, England, and many states in the USA, including Alaska.Lois died on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Courage Cottage in Morris, Minnesota. She had reached the age of 87 years, 9 months and 9 days.She is survived by her children: John (Linda) Schlieman of Grand Forks, ND, James (Linda) Schlieman of Holloway, Jenny (Joseph) Meister of Aurora, CO, Paul (Hope) Schlieman of Holloway, Tom (Jessie) Schlieman of Richmond, and Kristine (Michael) Stock of Appleton; one sister, Helen (Erwin) Groneberg of Hoffman; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and by many other relatives and friends.Lois is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edgar; sisters: Ruth Domingo, Dorothea Lind, and Marian Thielke; and one granddaughter, Michelle Stock.
