Edith Eva Maria Meis was born March 14, 1938, in East Germany. Edith grew up and attended school through the eleventh grade in East Germany. On December 23, 1970, she was married to Richard Meis at Erlensee, West Germany by Pastor Bergermeister. In Germany Edith worked as a hairdresser and also at a guesthouse. When she came to Appleton she worked for B and H Electronics and also for the public school district. Edith enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Her hobbies included gardening, raising flowers, her cats, and watching birds.Edith died on Saturday, July 14th, at Appleton Area Health Services-Hospital. She had attained 74 years and 4 months of age.She is survived by her husband, Richard, of Appleton; son, George Meis, of New Ulm; three grandchildren: Allison, Michael, and Matthew Meis; God-child, Troy Schulz; brothers-and sisters-in-law: Robert (Angela) Meis of Headland, AL, James Meis (friend, Trudy Loher) of Monticello, Gerald (Becky) Meis of Long Prairie, Carol Heinz (friend Tim) of Lino Lakes, Janice (Gary) Schulz of Holloway, and Marlys Haugerud of Little Falls; and several nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law, Leo and Martha Meis; brother and sister-in-law, Kurt and Elfrita Stockig; sister-in-law, Becky Meis; and a nephew in infancy.
