Lyla Viola Larson was born on July 9, 1908 in Westbrook, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Emma Larsen. She attended grade school in Storden and graduated from Storden High School. Lyla was united in marriage to Herman Larson on February 18, 1930, at her parents' home in Storden. This union was blessed with a daughter Virginia. They moved to Benson, where Lyla worked for Olson's hardware, J. C. Penney's, and Montgomery Ward. Lyla enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her hobbies included many different kinds of handwork; knitting and crocheting were her favorites. She enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School and active in women's ministry. After Herman passed away, she moved to Minnetonka, MN to be closer to her family. The Lord took Lyla home on Sunday, February 28, 2010, at the age of 101 years, 7 months, and 19 days. She is survived by her daughter Virginia (John) Carlson of Edina; two grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Emma, her husband Herman, two brothers Harry and Harvey, and two sisters Vera & Tina.There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, March 3, at 11:00am at Cross of Glory Church in Hopkins, MN. A private graveside service will be held at the Benson City Cemetery at a later date.
