Bernadine Emma Rohloff was born on April 28, 1924, in Tara Township, Swift County to Gustav Adolph and Emma Rachel (Hoffman) Gades. She was baptized the day of her birth at her parent's home by Rev. E. Schwandt and was confirmed on May 16, 1937, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairfield Township. She grew up in the Holloway area and attended school through the eighth grade at District #50 in Tara Township.On March 10, 1943, she was married to Lawrence Rohloff at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairfield Township. After their marriage they farmed in the Holloway area, nine years in the Hancock area, and then in Holloway until their retirement. She helped with the chores, farm work, and did housework for neighbors.She was a member of the church choir, Sunday school teacher, and the homemaker's club. Bernadine enjoyed baking, cooking, playing cards, embroidery, playing Bingo, and visiting with her family and neighbor ladies.Bernadine died on Wednesday evening, January 27, at Appleton Area Health Services. She had attained 85 years, 8 months, and 29 days of age.She is survived by three children: Kenneth (Carol) Rohloff of Danvers, Karen (Lyle) Schake of Madison, and Brenda (Allan) Oyen of Appleton; eight grandchildren: Lori (Lance) Swanke, Rick (Deb) Rohloff, Randy (Jessica) Rohloff, Scott (Roberta) Schake, Lisa Larson, Jim (Kristie) Schake, Dawn (Jon Olson), and Jim (Sarah) Oyen; 12 great-grandchildren: Hunter, Gage and Caiden Swanke, Brock and Parker Rohloff, Taylor and Kristi Larson, Sarah and Emily Schake, Ross and Cassidie Olson, and Sophie Oyen; three sisters: Ethel Krupke of Benson, Mardell Arnold of Morris, and Lydia (Milton) Peterson of Benson; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence, on February 7, 2009; an infant twin sister; grandson, Michael Allan Oyen; brother, Lyle Gades; and two sisters: Florence Winter and Donna Mae Winter.
