Viola A. Stevanus

June 24, 1920 — January 21, 2010

Viola Anna Wilhelmine Stevanus was born June 24, 1920 in Shible Township, Swift County, Minnesota, the daughter of Herman and Ida (Thielke) Bartz. She was baptized July 25, 1920 by Rev. Martin Waechter and confirmed March 25, 1934 by Rev. Paul Gierke at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Shible. She grew up in Shible Township and attended school through the eighth grade. On September 18, 1942, Viola was united in marriage to Galen Stevanus by Rev. Paul Gielke at Immanuel Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with two children and 35 years of marriage. They lived in the Appleton, Ortonville and Benson areas. Viola spent her time taking care of the home and raising the children. She enjoyed having day-care children in her home in Benson. Viola was called from this life on January 21, 2010 at Appleton Area Nursing Home. She attained the age of 89 years, 6 months and 27 days. Viola is survived by her son, Arlen (Betty) Stevanus of Rosemount; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren; siblings: Wilbert Bartz of Appleton, and Arlene Ulstad of Madison; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her husband Galen in 1977; a daughter Gail in 1960; her parents, Herman and Ida; six brothers; and three sisters.
