Dorothy Lorraine Atchison was born March 26, 1922, in Correll, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Emma (Bohlman) Wilson. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Correll. Dorothy grew up in the Lac qui Parle and Appleton areas and attended school at Hantho Consolidated School through the eighth grade. On March 26, 1940, Dorothy was united in marriage to Charles Leo Atchison at her parent's home in Appleton. This union was blessed with ten children and 59 years of marriage. Leo passed away in 1999. Besides raising their ten children and caring for the home, Dorothy worked for many years as a waitress before taking over the Shell Café in Benson. She also worked at Jennie-O for several years. After retiring from Jennie-O, Dorothy moved to Kirkville, MO. In 2002, she moved back to Benson. Dorothy was a member of Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ and the Ladies Aid there. Among the things she enjoyed were reading, baking, playing 'King in the Corner' card game, traveling, going out for coffee and spending time with the children. Dorothy was called from this life on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at her residence. She attained the age of 87 years, 9 months and 6 days. Dorothy is survived by her children: LaVina Sellman of Benson, Judie (Mike) Halbe of Morris, Bob (Margaret) Atchison of Monroe, WA, Anita (Milton) Armstrong of Kirksville, MO, Dori Atchison of Las Vegas, NV, Laura Atchison of of Meridon, ID, and Charles Atchison of Las Vegas, NV; 22 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; numerous step- grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Leo in 1999; her parents, George and Emma; daughters: Boni Burns and Sheree Atchison; son Lee Atchison; grandson, Jamie Slaughter; three sisters, two brothers, and three great grandsons.
