Merlyn Herman Sachs was born on the family farm near Holloway on January 16, 1941, to Herman and Emma (Nelson) Sachs, Jr. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fairfield Township. He attended District #55 and graduated from Morris School of Agriculture in 1958.On August 12, 1967, he was married to Mary Peerboom at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Clontarf. Merlyn was a licensed journeymen plumber and worked with plumbers in Appleton and New London. When his health permitted he was involved with the Appleton Sportsman's Club, Minnesota Trappers Association, Holloway Rod and Gun Club, and the Senior Citizens. He enjoyed helping fry omelets for the community benefit brunches. He was appointed volunteer of the year at Appleton Prairie Correctional Facility in 2004. Merlyn was also appointed as a special minister of the Eucharist for Ministry at Mass at St. John's Catholic Church by Bishop Raymond Lucker on September 29, 1999. His pride and joy was serving on the Appleton Ambulance Service for 23 years with all of his friends.Merlyn died on Saturday evening, December 5, at the St. Cloud Hospital. He had attained 68 years, 10 months, and 9 days of age.He is survived by his wife, Mary; five children: Dr. William (Kristi) Sachs of Brainerd, Amy (Troy) Goehring of Tabor, SD, Tony Sachs of Appleton, Nina (Chad) Nelson of Willmar, and Thomas Sachs of Marshall; four grandchildren: Joshua, Justin, and Jared Sachs, and Cole Goehring; his mother, Emma Radcliffe of Appleton; sister, Dianna Hansen of Appleton; brother-in-law, Walter Gades, of Holloway; nieces, nephews, and several other relatives.He is preceded in death by his father, Herman Sachs; sister, Vonda Gades; step-father, Amos Radcliffe; and two brothers-in-law: Roger Behrens and Jim Hansen.
