George Francis VanderWeyst was born on August 31, 1932, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Frank H. and Clara (Anderson) VanderWeyst. He was called from this life on Saturday afternoon, November 21st at the Swift County Benson Hospital. He attained the age of 77 years, 2 months and 20 days.George grew up and attended school in Benson. He farmed with his dad and brothers in the Benson area and continued to farm throughout his life. He was a veteran, serving his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.On September 21, 2001, George was united in marriage to Sharon K. Orth. Together George and Sharon were able to share in 8 years of marriage.Among the things he enjoyed were fishing, hunting, helping on the farm and raising elk.George is survived by his wife: Sharon VanderWeyst of Benson, MN; one son: Fran VanderWeyst of Benson, MN; seven daughters: Mary Norton of Big Lake, MN, Pat Quigley of Corcoran, MN, Suzanne Miller of Omaha, NE, Melody (Gerry) Taylor of St. Cloud, MN, Becky Britten of Grand Rapids, MN, Kerry (Matt) Aker of Alexandria, MN and DeAnn (John) Laaker of Fenton, MO; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; three brothers: Don (Lois) VanderWeyst of Benson, MN, Jerry (Sue) VanderWeyst of Benson, MN and Tom VanderWeyst of Fergus Falls, MN; six sisters: Phyllis Fenstra of Willmar, MN, Bev (William) Henry of Janesville, WI, Connie Morrissey of Belgrade, MN, Betty (George) Trudell of The Village, FL, Fran (Dean) Wechsler of Blaine, MN and Linda (Rodney) Ellingson of Benson, MN; and many nieces and nephews.George was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Clara VanderWeyst; and one sister: Cecilia Klang.
